Glenfarne Demesne with a choice of varied walks along the shores of Lough Macnean; Sean Mac Diarmada’s homestead for a true sense of our history (8 km from here); Glencar Waterfall (25 km);
The Coillte owned Cavan Burren, one of Ireland’s finest relict landscapes (11 km);
Take an underground boat ride in the Marble Arch Caves, followed by a walk on the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ while completing the Cuilcagh Boardwalk ; Links to boardwalk video & parking ;
The Arigna Mining Experience – well worth a visit (40 km)
For golfers there the challenging local 9 hole course in Blacklion, along the shores of Lough Macnean (5 km) We are also centrally located for access to many championship golf courses, e.g. Rosses Point, Strandhill, Murvagh, Slieve Russell, and the Nick Faldo designed Lough Erne Golf Resort in Enniskillen (30 km).
Fishing enthusiasts have a choice of three lakes within 20 km of Glenfarne, namely Lough Erne, Lough Macnean and the highly acclaimed Lough Melvin, and our central location is proving very popular with anglers from the UK. Walkers are attracted to Glenfarne by the numerous mapped walks in the vicinity. These vary from short walks in the local forest, to the more daunting walks in the mountains. A number of walking weekends are held during the year and more information can be got by keeping an eye on the ‘Holey Soles Walking Club‘. Other attractions are our proximity to the Organic Center in Rossinver, the Shannon Erne waterway, the Kingfisher Cycling Trail, and the Cavan Way guided walks. Genealogy in Leitrim is becoming popular, as is tracing the old Sligo Leitrim Railway (SLNCR Sligo Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway)
The Rainbow – or Ballroom of Romance, as it is better known – is a big attraction in the area, and part of the very popular Heritage Tour. Numerous dances & ceilís are held in the ballroom throughout the year. See more details in our events section
